Class Rules

posted Dec 5, 2017, 5:01 PM by Sunita Iyer

We have included our class rules in previous posts, but here are our official class rules that we'd like students to follow:
-Students must bring their Indian map every class, and they'll be awarded a sticker for every time they bring their map.
-When they get 10 stickers, they get a prize.
-Every class we chose 2 students to get a golden ticket based on their exemplary behavior in class that day. A golden gets the student another prize.
-Notes aren't required! We encourage students to write notes, no matter how brief, but we want students to have fun. We will post notes on the concepts we covered that day.
-We highly encourage parents to review with their kids after class.

We have started our discussion in the neighboring countries of India. Watched a video on River Ganges.

Also discussed a bit about some states of India and will be following through in our next few classes.

India Maps were shared with each kid in the classroom and they should be bringing it every class. India map is not the latest one and kids need to find what is the difference between the latest India map and the one they have.

Stickers and tickets are given to kids who bring the map to each class.

As some students missed watching the festivals video, we did a quick recap of festivals and started talking about the states and famous cities of India. We discussed celebrating Diwali and the Bal Vihar Republic Day. We are given the state of Tamilnadu and we talked about the arts and crafts of Tamilnadu.

Children did a great job of making and decorating their Diwali Diyas. It was a fun-filled project and a good learning experience for the newcomers. I am sure each one of you were able to enjoy your child's diya.

We will be started our arts and crafts unit next class.

We started learning about festivals of India. Kids enjoyed a YouTube video on the same. Festivals covered included Ganesh Chaturthi, Onam, Krishna Janmashtami, Rakshbandhan, Navaratri and Diwali mainly. We talked about different religions following these festivals. We also talked about states and cities where these festivals are predominantly celebrated. We also discussed the stories on origins of these festivals.

Some kids also shared a presentation on the cities and states their parents and grandparents come from.
